William "Bill" Tomlinson Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of William “Bill” John Tomlinson of Cold Lake, Alberta announces his passing with family by his side on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the age of 70 years.

Bill is lovingly survived by his son: Dana Tomlinson (Emily); brother: Stew Tomlinson; sister: Donna (John) Mazanek; nephews: Shane (Sonia) Mazanek & children: Cassidy & Vanessa, Blair Mazanek, Steven (Ronin) Tomlinson; niece: Stacey Tomlinson (Erik Vester) & children: Raelyn & Jordan Cowan.

Bill was predeceased by his son: Jesse Diehl Tomlinson; wife: Donna Marie Tomlinson.

Although Bill’s last few years were difficult, we want to remember the person he was in all his 70 years.

As a boy, he was loved for his mischievous personality and always had a twinkle in his eye and a tendency to push boundaries. He loved playing baseball and spending time with his friends. Summers at the cabin were spent swimming and waterskiing with Stew and their cousins.

After high school, he adopted a somewhat hippie lifestyle, backpacking in Europe and generally having fun. Returning to Canada, he worked for a while at Pacemaker Auto, then his dad persuaded him to go to Hay River to work in the Coast Guard.  On returning to Edmonton for his brother Stew’s wedding, he met Donna Stevenson, and a year later they were married. Family and friends were a big part of life and with the arrival of Jesse and Dana, their friends were always around as well. Bill coached hockey and supported the boys in their endeavours, especially snowboarding. Those were happy times.

Bill loved music, movies, boats, watching Formula One racing and hockey (especially the Red Wings!)

He had an amazing memory for details, which served him well in his years as a parts man. He also remembered movie dialogue, song lyrics, and importantly, names. Even after his stroke, that wasn’t diminished.

To the end, he had the twinkle in his eye, and still had a bit of trouble with the rules!

The family would like to thank the staff of Cold Lake Lodge, Home Care team, and the team at the Cold Lake Hospital for their care during the past years.

A private graveside service will take place at a later date in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan.

Memorial tributes in memory of Bill may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
