William Lasecki Obituary

William Paul Lasecki was born February 10, 1948 in Bonnyville Alberta, and passed away March 25, 2025 in Edmonton Alberta after an intense battle with cancer.

Bill is predeceased by his parents, Paul and Stella Lasecki; and infant sisters Faye and Rosemarie. He leaves behind his loving wife Myrna of Edmonton, son Loren Lasecki and daughter-in-law Abaigeal Wall of Edmonton; daughter Erin Whiteley and son-in-law Richard Whiteley of Victoria; grandchildren Avery, Maggie, Ivy and Ryder Whiteley of Victoria; and many friends and relatives.

Bill met Myrna in his second year of teaching at Ardmore School while he was the Ukrainian teacher and she was the new French teacher. After discovering a mutual love of music and singing, and singing their way through Bill’s songbook late into the night, they decided that they were smitten with each other. They got married in 1972, and raised their two children on his mom and dad’s farm east of Ardmore.

Many former students will remember Bill as their elementary teacher “Mr. Lasecki” at Ardmore School, where he spent most of his career for over 30 years until retirement in 2003. They’ll recall his loud and infectious laugh, which he shared often – and how “Mr. L”, that diehard Ford fan, loved engaging in the long-standing Ford versus Chevy rivalry with his students! But what they might not know is that one of his greatest thrills as a teacher was running into his former students that had become adults; catching up with them and seeing where life had taken them.

Music was one of his greatest passions in life, and he loved to share it with everyone. Giving back to the community through music filled him up. He was the church organist at Ardmore United Church for close to 20 years. He ran the Ardmore School choir for many years, taking the students to nursing homes to perform for seniors. He sang, played guitar, accordion and sometimes even saxophone in bands, at family gatherings, and especially with friends during campfire jam sessions at Crane Lake. He also loved singing with Myrna in many duets over the years at weddings and celebrations; and they both performed with the Bonnyville Society Singers for 10 years.

In his downtime, he loved spending time with his family and friends at the cabin at Crane Lake: going fishing, cruising on his pontoon boat, walking and coffeeing with Myrna and dear friends the Youngs, and making cherished memories.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday April 5 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church in Bonnyville, with Reverend Douglas Powell officiating. A livestream of the service will be made available on our website.  Interment to follow at Duclos Memorial Cemetery in Ardmore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University Hospital Foundation at www.givetouhf.ca.

Respectfully submitted by the Lasecki family.
