Victor Kossowan

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather & brother, Victor John Kossowan of Camrose, Alberta, formerly of Bonnyville, at the age of 95 years.

Vic was the 8th child born to John & Teklia Kossowan on February 24, 1925 in Mundare, AB.  On August 10, 1947 Vic married Helen Mercier and had eight children.

Vic had a variety of occupations: farmer; owner of Vic’s Men’s Wear & V & H Confectionary; salesman at Zarowny Motors.  He was a carpenter working with his brother, John at K&K Builders and later on with his son, Ken.  In his retirement, Vic worked at Dr. Brosseau School as a caretaker.  He was well liked by the kids and known as “Mr. K”.  He also raised chinchillas and was the President of the Bonnyville Seniors Citizen Drop-In Centre.

Vic was an enthusiastic gardener, teaching his eight children the love of nature and pride in maintaining a well groomed yard.  He loved berry picking with his family and took the children on many ice fishing excursions.  In his younger years, he was an avid golfer, curler and loved to play the banjo in a band with his brothers, at many local halls.  Vic was a master at cribbage playing well into his 90’s.

Vic will be forever remembered and loved by his children: Carolyn Yeo, Joyce (Mike) Dunnigan, Ken Kossowan, Lorraine (Gilbert) St. Arnault, Phil (Debbie) Kossowan, Janice (Paul) Simard, Faye (Mike) Mahe, David Kossowan; 23 grandchildren & 3 step-grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren & 5 step-great grandchildren; brother: Peter Kossowan; as well as numerous nephews & nieces.

Vic was predeceased by his wife: Helen Kossowan in 2013; son-in-law: Doug Yeo; daughter-in-law: Pauline Kossowan; grandson: Wyatt Kossowan; brothers & sisters: Kate (Karl) Ryll, Florence (Gus) O’Neill, Adam (Lillian) Kossowan, Irene (Bill) Dolinsky, Julianna (John) Woroch, Harry (Edna) Kossowan, Barbara (Joe) Kaszefski, John Kossowan.

Celebration of Life, Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Bonnyville, Alberta with Father Rene Realuyo officiating. Urn bearer: Lorraine St. Arnault. Final Resting Place, Holy Family Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bonnyville, Alberta.
