With broken hearts the family of Jody Brertton of Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Alberta is deeply saddened to announce her unexpected passing on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the age of 48 years.

Jody is lovingly survived by her children: Shayla Mackinaw, Owen Mackinaw, Shae Mackinaw; special friend: Shawn Rain; mother: Delia Brertton; grandchildren: James Stone, Jade Stone, Kylo Stone, Alizah, Izabella, Deliah, Jordan Jr., Serayiah, Destine, Serenity, Geoson, Seraine, Daziegh-Lee, Harlow Brertton; brother: Joey Brertton; sisters: Brenda Brertton, Shirley Steinhauer, Judy Brertton, Pam (Randy) Scanie, Jamie (Jeremy) Brertton; adopted children: Jordan Brertton, Sarah Brertton, Terence Brertton; kohkom: Mary O. Cardinal; father of her children: Neil Mackinaw; special aunts: Cora Houle, Eva (Dennis) Moosewah, Linda Makokis, Cindy McGilvery; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Jody was predeceased by her father: George Brertton; stepson: Travis Rain; grandson: Kaydence Stone; sister-in-law: Twyla Cardinal: niece: Star Brertton; nephew: Shaun Cardinal.

Funeral Service, Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., Aiywakes Cultural Centre, Saddle Lake Cree Nation, AB with Pastor Linda Burns officiating. Pallbearers: Jordan Brertton, Michael Baptiste, Layne Brertton, Shae Brertton, Donivin Large, Wyatt Scanie, Owen Mackinaw, Terence Brertton. Honorary Pallbearers: Sontana Wapass, Jason Fox, Lucy Shorting, Darcie Brertton, Courtney Brertton, Kesha Brertton, Tenesha Cardinal, Anita Baptiste, Samantha Baptiste, Ellen Omeasoo, Janessa Wood, Rylee Scanie, Randy Jr. Scanie, Nike Stone and all of Jody's nieces, nephews, friends and family.
