With deep gratitude for his life, the family of Hervé Henri Joseph Soucy announce he passed away at 79 years of age on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Known as Harvey, he was born and raised in Bonnyville, Alberta, where he lived most of his life.
Harvey was predeceased by his parents: Raoul & Lucille Soucy; brothers: Denis & Roland Soucy; wife: Sylvia Soucy; his only sister: Ida Collins and her husband, Gerald.
Harvey is survived by his brothers: Louis (Andrea) Soucy and Maurice (Diane) Soucy.
When Harvey graduated high school, he started work at the Toronto Dominion Bank in Bonnyville. He continued working in the field of accounting until his retirement, his longest employer being Triangle Mechanical in Bonnyville.
As a youth and young man, Harvey developed a love for all sports, especially baseball. As a catcher he loved having control of the game. The Bonnyville Brewers team benefitted from his enthusiasm. Harvey’s love for hockey benefitted the community as he supported young hockey players for over 20 years. He enjoyed coaching and in 1989 was honoured with a Coach of the Year award. The Bantam B team, The Cyclones, had their best year, finishing second in the league. Harvey was a long time supporter of the Bonnyville Pontiacs Junior A hockey team and a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan.
Harvey was a man of faith and attended Mass regularly at St. Louis Parish. He had a kind, gentle and generous spirit, with a soft spot for people in need; he often helped with gifts of money to friends and acquaintances when they needed a hand, or maybe a new hockey stick for a young player in need. He was always humble, and never spoke of his good works, yet somehow everyone knew he was the benefactor of kindness. Harvey’s unique sense of humour was enjoyed by everyone who knew him.
Harvey was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 183. He volunteered with many of their causes and events.
Harvey will be lovingly remembered by his family; his cousin, Ray Prevost and his wife, Helene Severyn; who were a loving and kind, constant presence in his life. Uncle Harvey was a favorite to his nieces, Chantal & Danica, and his nephews, Denis, Ray, Marty & Roger. Harvey never tired of hearing the news about all their families and children; he loved them all very much and enjoyed his visits with them when he was able to make a trip to Beaumont, or to B.C.
Celebration of Life, Saturday, May 30, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. (eulogy starting at 10:50 a.m.), St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, Bonnyville, Alberta with Father Rene Realuyo officiating. Final Resting Place, St. Louis Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bonnyville, Alberta.
