Evelyn Vicki Laursen Drake was born on November 9, 1936 on the Laursen homestead, north of Pierceland. She attended school at the Smoky Hill one room school house. Evelyn and her sister Connie, lit the fire and supplied the drinking water to make a little income for the Laursen household.
Evelyn was the mother of six children. She did everything humanly possible to provide for her children; ironed clothes, picked blueberries to sell at McClellan's Store and removed rocks so they could build a new highway north of Pierceland. Evelyn worked tirelessly in the fish plants in both Beacon Hill and Cold Lake. She was employed at the Cold Lake Airbase for twenty three years. She would clean P.M.Q's in the evenings or days off to make a little extra.
Evelyn worked hard all of her life, but she had fun too. She loved to laugh, especially with her sister, Pat. There would be tears running down both of their faces. Evelyn enjoyed spending a little time in the casinos; when she lost she never complained and when she won she shared with her children. She also loved to play cards, mostly Kaiser and Crib. She and her youngest son, Blaine, would travel to Crib tournaments - winning many! Evelyn looked forward each summer to playing cards at Pierce Lake with family. She had more friends than we can name, but one special lifelong friend is Annie Hein, and we would like to send her an extra tight hug. Evelyn was very close to her brother, Ronald; they spoke every evening.
Evelyn had six children: Ken (Cindy), Deb (Tim), Connie, Randy, Shannon (Mervin) and Blaine (Susan); ten grandchildren: Trina, Shawn, Brett, Melany, Jamie, Teann, Kane, Kendra, Randy and Melissa; thirteen great-grandchildren; five step-children: Ken (Charlotte), Diane, Maureen (Stan), Les (Cookie) and Kevin; eleven step-grandchildren; twenty step-great-grandchildren; all of whom she cared very much for.
Before Evelyn was a Drake, she was a Laursen, the second of eleven children: Connie (Rudy), Alan (Gwen), Ronald (Grace), Faye (Donald), Bud, Gary (Cecille), Jim, Gene, Pat (Edmond) and Glen (Lynn).
Waiting in heaven to greet her, is the love of her life: Keith Drake; daughter: Connie; son: Randy; step-daughters: Diane and Maureen; granddaughter: Trina; Parents: Roy and Isabella; sister: Connie; three brothers: Gary, Jim and Gene; three brothers-in-law: Rudy, Donald and Edmond; two sisters-in-law: Alice and Cecille.
Evelyn will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Keith at the Lakeview Cemetery in Cold Lake North. Pallbearers are Evelyn's nine grandchildren. In the days going forward, remember that Evelyn loved to laugh and her eyes sparkled with mischief. She is loved by many: it is now her time to rest.
