Charles Leroy Hiar, of Elk Point, AB passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, just a few months shy of his 95th Birthday, in Bonnyville, AB.
Charles was born on July 27,1930 at home on the farm near Marsden, SK, to Pearl & May Hiar. From that day forward farming was his passion, and lifelong love; he was still on his acreage up until his death.
Charles took on many ventures, and jobs through his years. The early days were spent working on the farm, as well as working for neighbors. While living in Lloydminster, Charles worked for Co-op Dairy, Nelson Lumber, rototilled many gardens, and retired from working for Husky Oil. He was a man of many talents, and he openly shared his knowledge & wisdom with anyone. Many animals were loved and cared for by Charles through the years (even Timmi last week in the hospital); he was a fabulous farmer, and friend to anything with fur or feathers.
Charles married the love of his life on April 20th, 1954, Violet June Ruttan. Together they built a long, wonderful life of 71 years. These years included many adventures with Charles usually doing it his way. Charles always had an opinion that he wasn't afraid to share, but at the same time would give you the shirt off his back, or even his last dime. And you would never leave his table hungry, at any meal or coffee time. He loved to share his baked goods, even while temporarily blind he has June read the recipe, so he could bake. He loved the outdoors and was looking forward to hunting this fall. He loved spending any time with family & friends.
Charles was happiest on the Elk Point acreage these last 30 years, but lived in Lloydminster & Chilliwack, B.C, and had many enjoyable years at the cabin at Little Fishing Lake, SK; a few trips to the States, a train trip from Lon Rock, SK to northern B.C., and even a Caribbean Cruise.
Charles was predeceased by his parents; his sisters: Virginia Hobbs, Rose Duddy & Irene Musse; and treasured son-in-law: Phil Connolly; brothers-in-law: Sid Emerson, Fred, John, Vernon & Allan Ruttan.
Charles leaves to mourn his loving devoted wife: June; his daughter: Norma; grandson: Shawn & his daughter: Brooklyn Connolly all of Lloydminster, AB; granddaughter: Alicia & and her daughter: Kaydence of Kelowna, B.C.
Charles will also be missed by his son: Don & his wife, Terri-Lee of Bonnyville, AB; grandson: Austin of Bonnyville, AB; grandson: Colton & his wife, Shyla of Edmonton, AB; granddaughter: Shelby & Linden of Cold Lake, AB; his sister: Betty Lapinski of Edmonton, AB; and brother: Earl & Clarene of Redwater, AB; sister-in-law: Marj Emerson of Lloydminster, AB; as well as many cherished nieces & nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Charles' Life on the farm, 5402 Twp 562, Elk Point, AB, on Saturday, June 7, 2025. at 11:00 a.m.
