It is with profound sadness that the family of Allyson Anne Smart announce her passing on January 15, 2026, at the age of 72 years.
Allyson was born on February 9, 1953, in Bonnyville, Alberta. The family later relocated to Cold Lake, where Allyson spent most of her life with our mother and father. In 2020, Allyson moved to Courtenay, British Columbia, to live with our sister Eva Wilson, where she received exceptional care and support, particularly during her courageous battle with cancer.
Our family would like to thank Eva, Allyson’s niece Patricia and her nephew Adam for the love and compassion she showed Allyson while caring for her in their homes.
Allyson was born with a disability. This however, never stopped her from living life to fullest with the support of organizations such as the Dove Center and Community Options. She had a deep love for animals, especially her cats and dogs, who she cherished and cared for deeply. Her greatest passion, however, was horses. Allyson would do anything to be near a horse – from riding to going to rodeos - and was fortunate to have her own horses over the years. She especially loved spending time at the Penner Ranch where she helped with horse grooming, feeding and riding. The family extends sincere thanks to Diana and the Penner family for welcoming Allyson and treating her like a family member.
Allyson was predeceased by her father George Smart; mother Kathleen Smart (Imrie); her sister Cynthia Alexander; her brother Jamie Smart; and brothers-in-law Tony Belluz and Ken Wilson.
She is lovingly remembered by sisters Patricia Belluz of Sioux Lookout, Ontario; Janice Smart of South Surrey, British Columbia; Eva Wilson of Courtney, British Columbia; and brother John Smart of Cold Lake, Alberta.
Allyson will also be fondly remembered by her nephews Jason and Robin Gray, Tyler Smart, Jordy Alexander, and Ted Wilson; her nieces Jody Cutfeet, Trisha Belluz, Lori Smart and Patricia Wilson; and her sisters-in-law Carol Smart and Christine Goss.
Allyson also leaves behind a very special friend – her beloved cat Muffin, whom she adored.
Allyson will be cremated, and her ashes will be returned to Cold Lake to be interned with our mother and father. A private family service and internment will be held later, when all can gather together.
Allyson was deeply loved by her family and many, many others. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
Respectfully submitted by the family
