Welcome to Memento Funeral Chapel

Funeral Service in Alberta, indeed in North America, has traveled a long journey in a relatively short period of time.  In the Bonnyville/Cold Lake area it started in 1916 with Esrom Gingras building caskets followed by Dudley Dow in 1929.  By 1932, true to the area’s agricultural heritage, Walter Beix was operating the funeral home in Bonnyville out of the back of his Massey-Harris dealership.  About this time funeral service in Cold Lake was provided by George Rhyason.

Cam Fontaine was the first licensed embalmer in the area. He bought the Bonnyville funeral home in 1956 and Cold Lake’s in 1959. The newcomer from Saskatchewan in 1975 was Don Thackeray who solely owned and operated the firm until forming a partnership in 1996.

At Memento Funeral Chapel we consider people and relationships to be paramount. It is a privilege to meet and serve the families of our community. Memento Funeral Chapel has two locations, 5201 Lakeshore Dr. in Bonnyville and 5106 – 55 A St. in Cold Lake. We offer a full range of goods and services. It is our commitment to work with integrity to provide a meaningful, affordable, and appropriate funeral service experience. At Memento Funeral Chapel the tradition of valuing people continues.
